Is Your Workplace Excellence slowing down your Career Growth?

Let’s be honest, how many of us have found our workplace excellence being threatened by the new normal of working from home? The same four walls day in and day out can lead to a severe case of doldrums. For those who thrive on social interaction, cultivating a feeling of workplace excellence when the workplace is our living room can feel like an impossible task. So what’s a go-getter to do when excellence at work seems like more trouble than it’s worth?

The first step is acknowledging that your career growth has been impacted by the forced isolation of working from home. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that we should be able to accomplish just as much as we did in pre-pandemic times, but the truth is that the pandemic has touched all of us in one way or another and has had a profound impact on the way we work. When we’re able to take a step back and recognize that our output might not be at its peak, we can start to develop a plan for getting back to work mode.

Here are a few things you can do to jumpstart your journey back to excellence:

Schedule social interaction into your week: Make time for coffee dates, happy hours, or even just walks around the block with friends and colleagues.

Create structure: One of the benefits of working from home is that we have more control over our time, but that can also be one of its downfalls. If you find yourself struggling to focus, try setting a daily schedule and sticking to it as best you can.

Mix up your surroundings: Don’t be afraid to work from different places throughout your house, or even venture out to a local coffee shop or park once in awhile. A change of scenery can do wonders for your productivity.

Make time for yourself: Yes, you should be scheduling time for work, but you should also be scheduling time for yourself! Make sure you’re taking care of your physical and mental health by getting enough sleep, eating well, and exercising regularly.

Take advantage of learning opportunities: Use this time at home to learn new skills or improve upon old ones. Whether it’s taking an online course, reading industry news, or simply keeping up with changing technology, continuing your education will only benefit you in the long run.
