Death of Internet Explorer

Death of Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer was one of Windows’ main releases in 1995. I can still clearly recall what happened when I was in school. It was all about social media like Orkut when I first learned about Internet Explorer in 1998.

Things to keep in mind

The following three steps should be taken to start configuring Microsoft Edge in Internet Explorer mode in order to get your company ready by June 15, 2022:

  1. For further information, visit the Internet Explorer mode webpage. Get a bespoke cost-benefit analysis of Microsoft Edge and IE mode for your firm using a Forrester Consulting Total Economic ImpactTM estimation tool, as well as access to the Getting Started guide.
  2. Read the Getting Started guide for helpful checklists, instructional videos, and links to free support services like FastTrack and App Assure, which may assist you with deployment as well as website and application compatibility.
  3. If you already have an Enterprise Mode Site List in Internet Explorer, you can use it. You’re halfway to setting up IE mode if you reuse your Enterprise Mode and Site List. If you don’t already have one, make one with this Configure IE mode utility.

If you aare a Business using IE

If your business uses Internet Explorer, you can have a fairly sizable collection of old Internet Explorer-based websites and applications that have been amassed over many years. In fact, it was discovered that organizations typically have 1,678 legacy apps.

By switching to Microsoft Edge, you receive everything mentioned above, plus the ability to use IE mode to extend the life of your legacy websites and apps much beyond the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application retirement date. Microsoft Edge’s Internet Explorer mode will continue to function at least until 2029.

If you are a Web Developer

I know you’ve been anticipating this day for a very long time if you’re a web developer working on a contemporary website or app. Supporting Internet Explorer with current browsers has become more and more challenging. Businesses and consumers will be able to restrict their use of Internet Explorer to only those legacy sites that absolutely require it as a result of this change.

Although this is a good shift that will save you as a web developer time and money, it will take some time for customers to stop using Internet Explorer, so I advise you to plan an orderly transition to terminate support for Internet Explorer based on your users’ needs.

Survey

Based on a study of 40 business decision-makers that Forrester Consulting was commissioned to undertake for Microsoft in February 2021. Based on intricacy, location, and other variables, actual costs could differ. The Total Economic ImpactTM of Microsoft Edge, research for which Forrester Consulting was hired, was released in May 2021.
